Our American Civil War:

The People, Places and Events

Union...Who Shaped It....and Shared It...Rebel

A 2nd year of reenating is almost over and I've grown in my role as woman soldier and still have to work on not being found out. That's not an easy task, and yet as I compare my photo with the photos of Susanna Smith-2d Maine Cavalry (left) and Frances Clayton (right). I feel I'm doing pretty well at getting it right.

....Billy

Al....

The hard part is staying in character. Got to work on my story. Let's see. Dagnabbit-darn troopers interrupting me. They to are women soldiers, Billy, a year old and Al, one month old. And want me to met a woman.

What's that? You want to be a women soldier? Ok, no problem. Part of the Third Iowa Cavalry Reenactors, Inc., mission is to honor the women soldiers who served and died in the Civil War. I've found the public in the 21st century; do not know that women served  under the guise of the male soldier. If you feel you've got what it takes to be a man, and are willing to do your best at the blend in with the men. Here is what we ask of you.

Research, Research, and research. Get to know the women who were soldiers and be able to pass their story onto the public. This of course, could cause you to step out of character or create your story using them in the story. " I hear tell there was this woman over in the 153 rd New York Infantry and another a Lt., had a bouncing baby boy." I still have a problem with that part. I still step out of character to give the public information.

Also, go to Wendy Cebula, formally King, and check out her web site:

http://www.geocities.com/womansoldier/guidelines1.html

And read through the information she has set upon the pages. She has been reenating since 1984 and we have adopted her guidelines for this unit. We will help you as you grow in your role as a women soldier. Welcome abord, trooper.
