In the town of Keokuk,
Iowa the Third Iowa Volunteer Cavalry
was mustered into service on
August 30, 1861.
On August 9, 1865 at
Atlanta, Georgia, the Third Iowa cavalry
was mustered out of service
and given a train ride to Davenport, Iowa.
On their arrival, the town
of Davenport gave them a heroes welcome.
After their arrival they
disbanded to find their way home
to their loved ones waiting.
